WHAT IS RAINMETER??


Rainmeter is a free Windows application that enhances your desktop with a ton of cool widgets and features. You can monitor your system performance, the time and date, weather, RSS feeds, and many other things.You can download Rainmeter in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.


Rainmeter is so super because you can customize it in almost every way imaginable. Everything from the themes and skins of the program to the tray icon can be tweaked.

Features may vary from skin to skin, I came across some skins which include shortcuts to frequently used programs, clocks, calendars, notes, News, Docks, social networking, media player, network information, volume icons and lot more. Each theme can be reconfigured in a wide variety of ways, as each individual module can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the screen.

Also there are thousands of skins available in internet designed by Rainmeter fans. You can found Rainmeter skins in Deviantart andCustomize.org .


You can use one skin gadget in another skin, if you like. So you can customize from different skins too.

Overall, Rainmeter is a good choice for users who want to customize the desktop. However, casual users may feel little bit tricky, but it's not difficult for getting started. Rainmeter provides manual on how to use, you can read it here.

Configuring Rainmeter:

1. Download the Rainmeter Application to your computer, by clicking the above "download" image.

2. Install the application.

3. Once you installed the Rainmeter application, by default illustro skin will be applied.



4. In Manage Rainmeter window, you can see the skins which you installed. Expand the skin folder and then expand Gadget folder, then select the .ini file and click load to appear on your Desktop or unload to disappear the gadget from desktop.

5. Like this if you have multiple skins installed, then you can load one gadget from one skin another from another skin.

6. To download the skins, go to Deviantart or Customize.org.
Note that, the skins will have the extensions rmskin which are directly executable and some have zipped. If you download the Zipped skins, extract them and place the folder in Rainmeter skins folder (generally, C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins). In Manage window, click Refresh to appear your skin folder.

All the skins you installed are found in Rainmeter skins folder, if you delete particular folder the skin will be removed. The folders present in Rainmeter skins folder only are appear in the Manage Rainmeter window.
